Sydney Theatre Company’s relocation to Fox Studios Australia is imminent.
The Sydney Theatre Company (STC) will complete its relocation from Wharf 4/5 to Fox Studios in early July 2018. The temporary move will be for approximately 18 months, in which time the existing wharf is to be redeveloped.
STC’s Wharf Renewal Project is being undertaken in line with the Walsh Bay Arts Precinct Project and represents a $60 Million investment. This will be the first significant renovation since it opened in 1984.
Graphite Projects has been engaged to undertake the refurbishment and fitout of the areas set aside for STC within the Fox Studios precinct. The once sublet suites are being combined into a single overall office tenancy and will house the STC artistic, production and administration teams.
As part of the move to Fox Studios, STC is moving all rehearsals to Stage 8, and the construction of two new independent acoustic rehearsal studios is well underway. The studios are 250 and 290 square metres in size and constructed acoustically utilising 200mm insulated refrigeration panels to a height of 6m.
The studio ceilings are of the same material and suspended from the roof structure and gantry overhead to a maximum height of 12m. Acoustic integrity is maintained via the installation of an isolated timber joist and panel flooring system.
The construction of ancillary services; including kitchenettes, control rooms, fitting rooms, and office accommodation is included as part of the fitout.
Services (Power/Lighting, Sprinklers/Detection, Supply and Relief Air), have been extended down from the high level of approximately 12m into the new rehearsal studios.
